Eight year-old Yael lives in her own private world. Her mother works all day and is too exhausted to spend time with her at night, while her father works overseas. Her uncle, a rock star in a band, acts as something of a surrogate father. When Yael hears an advertisement for a pen that will give her a ‘wonderful life’, she decides to spend all her savings on this miracle pen. The NETPAC award winner for best Asian film at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and an official selection of New Directors/New Films, Shireen Seno’s sophomore feature confirms her place as a unique voice in Filipino cinema.
